EU Imposes Sanctions on Three Ministers from Assad's Government
الاتحاد الأوروبي والنظام السوري

The European Union has added three ministers from Bashar al-Assad's government to its sanctions list in a new move to increase pressure on the Syrian regime.

The sanctions target Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Louay Al-Monjed, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Firas Qaddour, and Minister of State Ahmad Boustaji.

In a statement issued by the European Council on Tuesday, it was reported that the decision was made due to "ongoing pressures and violations of human rights" experienced in Syria.

The statement clarified that the mentioned ministers bear direct responsibility for the "brutal repression exercised by the Syrian regime against civilian protesters."

The sanctions include asset freezes, prohibiting EU citizens and companies from providing funds to the individuals listed, as well as travel bans.

With this action, the total number of Syrian individuals subject to EU sanctions has risen to 318, along with 86 organizations.
