Casualties and Damage Reported Following Explosion During Firefighting Efforts in Lattakia Syria

Hawzan Makhlouf, the Director of Health in Lattakia, confirmed the death of one person and injuries to seven others due to an explosion from an unknown object during firefighting efforts in the al-Baitar village area of Qardaha countryside. Meanwhile, Ammar Salman, the head of the Safarqiya Municipality, mentioned that the fire which broke out in the al-Baitar village has been extinguished, and cooling operations have commenced as residents return to their homes.

Fires erupted in forests and brushlands across several areas in Lattakia, including a blaze in the Shire Faq village in the Haffa region and two fires in the Bqailon village and al-Areen Mountain in Qardaha, according to the SANA news agency.

Iyad Ibrahim, the Director of the Electricity Company in Lattakia, explained that the fire caused damage to low and medium voltage power lines and electrical networks in the Al-Basit area. He noted that the company's crews are prepared to restore normalcy as soon as firefighting operations are completed, mentioning that power was cut off in al-Badrousiyah for public safety and to provide water for firefighting vehicles.

 

In a separate statement, Hawzan Makhlouf reported that twelve injuries were admitted to al-Basel Hospital in Qardaha, with three of those injuries transferred to the national hospital in Lattakia due to the fire that broke out in al-Areen Mountain. Additionally, two cases of asphyxiation from the fire in the Shire Qaq village were reported at the Haffa National Hospital earlier today. Several homes were damaged by the fires that erupted in the al-Badrousiyah region near Kasab in Lattakia. According to the Director of Agriculture in Lattakia, Bassem Duba, the assessment of damaged homes will take place after the fires have been extinguished.
