Cairo Meeting: Enhancing Arab Cooperation to Address Housing and Urban Development Challenges

An Arab meeting on housing and urban development was held in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, chaired by the Syrian regime, with representatives from various Arab countries participating. The discussions focused on the challenges facing the housing sector and development in the region.
Samar Al-Sebai, the Minister of Social Affairs in the regime's government, assumed the presidency of the sixth session of the Arab Population and Development Council, according to the regime's news agency "SANA."
In her opening speech, Al-Sebai emphasized the importance of strengthening Arab cooperation to tackle demographic challenges, citing what she referred to as "Israeli aggression" as a factor contributing to economic and social pressures in the region. She also highlighted the reception of around 600,000 migrants from Lebanon over the past two months, claiming that support in terms of relief and health services was provided to them, while Syrian citizens within the country suffer from severe living crises.
Al-Sebai also criticized the international sanctions imposed on the regime, deeming them an obstacle to development, and called for enhanced Arab joint work.
The meeting concluded with the adoption of decisions that include studying the distribution of populations between urban and rural areas, empowering the elderly, and enhancing the role of youth in the green economy. Additionally, proposals put forth by the regime to study women's needs in family planning were accepted.
It is noteworthy that the Syrian regime was previously elected to chair the executive office of the Arab Population and Development Council for two years, despite widespread criticisms of its policies that have exacerbated the suffering of Syrians both domestically and abroad.
