After the Execution of Three Young Men... Security Raids in Latakia Searching for the Assault's Videographer

The city of Latakia woke up to unprecedented security movements this Wednesday morning, as public security forces initiated a search and raid campaign around the Azahri Roundabout in the city. The focus was on tracking down the person who recorded the video footage showing security forces assaulting the body of an unarmed young man in broad daylight, amid heavy security reinforcements witnessed in the area.

These actions raise serious questions about the priorities of the security institution, which seems more concerned with covering up evidence than investigating the circumstances of the crime and holding the perpetrators accountable.

These moves followed the killing of three unarmed young men by a group of public security officers yesterday near the Azahri Roundabout. One of the victims was wanted on criminal charges, while the other two were returning from their work.

The extrajudicial killings reflect a disturbing trend by the regime in Damascus, which continues to rely on a heavy-handed security approach, disregarding citizens' basic rights and due judicial processes.

According to circulating information, the bodies were transferred after the incident to the Dattour neighborhood, sparking fear and anger among locals due to the security forces' handling of the situation, especially since the executions were carried out without any notable resistance.

Such practices are no longer surprising within a security system lacking accountability and transparency, where incidents of excessive violence are repeated without real consequences, deepening the wounds of the local community and increasing tensions.

In an official statement, the public security department at the time claimed that the operation targeted "a cell linked to the remnants of the fallen regime" led by a person named Hassan Ibrahim. However, many residents considered the incident to be beyond the usual security framework and raised questions about the methodology of dealing with the wanted individuals.

This incident highlights a recurring pattern of attempts by the authorities to cloak their violations under the guise of security, using vague terminology to justify their repressive practices, while the gap between the official narrative and the reality experienced by citizens widens day by day.
