200 Dead in Most Violent Clashes in Rural Aleppo in Years Following Al-Nusra Attack

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has counted two hundred deaths from Syrian regime forces and armed militias led by the terrorist Al-Nusra Front organization, in fierce battles taking place in rural areas of Aleppo and Idlib.

The Syrian regime's Defense Ministry indicated that it was responding to a large-scale offensive launched by armed groups around Aleppo and Idlib, confirming ongoing confrontations.

Syrian opposition formations led by the terrorist Al-Nusra Front organization initiated a military operation targeting regime forces' positions in Jabal Al-Zawiya area south of Idlib, announcing their control over the Second Engineers Countryside area west of Aleppo.

The Syrian Observatory documented an increase in casualties "during the ongoing battles over 24 hours to 132 dead, distributed between 65 from Hayat Tahrir al-Sham/Al-Nusra Front, 18 from National Army factions, and 49 regime personnel."

Opposition militias led by the terrorist Al-Nusra have achieved field progress in western Aleppo countryside and eastern Idlib countryside, controlling "villages of strategic importance due to their proximity to the Aleppo-Damascus international road" in an effort to cut this vital artery.

Hayat Tahrir al-Sham/Al-Nusra Front and their allies in the "Syrian National Army" militias continue their advance in western Aleppo countryside, where they have imposed control over 21 villages in less than 12 hours since the launch of the military operation.

A ceasefire agreement has been in effect in the region since March 6, 2020, concluded between Moscow, supporting the regime, and Ankara, backing the opposition, following a large-scale attack launched by regime forces with Russian support that lasted three months.

Syria has been witnessing a bloody conflict since 2011 that has claimed more than half a million lives, causing massive destruction to infrastructure and causing millions of residents to be displaced both inside and outside the country.
