Ukrainian Attack Disrupts Moscow Airports

Today, Wednesday, Ukraine carried out a drone attack on the Russian capital Moscow for the third consecutive day, leading to the temporary closure of most of the city's airports. This occurred despite the proximity of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s arrival to participate in the celebrations of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
Sergey Sobyanin, Moscow’s mayor, explained that Russian air defense systems managed to destroy at least 14 drones launched by Ukraine from 10:00 PM Tuesday (1900 GMT) until Wednesday morning, according to Reuters. Most of Moscow’s main airports remained offline throughout most of the night amid heightened security and security alerts.
These developments come as Moscow prepares to host around 29 world leaders and officials, including President Xi Jinping, to participate in the WWII victory anniversary celebrations. The event will feature military units from 13 countries, including China.
Xi is scheduled to begin his five-day visit to Russia today, Wednesday. This visit represents a significant diplomatic boost for the Kremlin, as Russian President Vladimir Putin seeks to demonstrate that Russia remains an active player on the international stage despite ongoing challenges. It is expected that Xi will sign several agreements to strengthen the strategic partnership between Beijing and Moscow, which has become one of Russia’s most important trade partners, especially amid the ongoing trade conflict with Washington.
