A horrific incident occurred in the city of Magdeburg in eastern Germany on Friday evening when a speeding car plowed into a crowd of people at a Christmas market, resulting in deaths and dozens of injuries. Local authorities described the incident as an attack, and the Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, Reiner Haseloff, confirmed that investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances of the incident.

The city officials of Magdeburg stated that the car sped towards the crowd, leading to the deaths of at least two people and injuring 68 others. Reports from the German newspaper Bild indicated that the death toll could rise to 11, and conflicting information emerged regarding the number of injured.

Moreover, the municipality of Magdeburg clarified that among the injured, there are 15 critical cases, while the other injuries varied from moderate to light.

Haseloff pointed out that the police managed to arrest the suspect, a Saudi doctor who has been residing in Germany since 2006. He confirmed that based on available information, it appears the suspect acted alone, which reduces the risk of any additional threat to the city.

Earlier reports mentioned that the police suspected the presence of an explosive device in the car; however, it was later confirmed that there were no explosive materials. The events in Magdeburg remain under scrutiny and investigation by German authorities in light of this tragic incident.
