مظاهرات سورية تطالب بالعلمانية في دمشق 19-12-2024

The Umayyad Square in Damascus attracted large crowds of Syrian youth who raised slogans demanding the establishment of a secular democratic state ensuring equality for all components of Syrian society.

Demonstrators chanted slogans affirming Syrian people's unity and rejecting discrimination, including "Religion is for God and the homeland is for all" and "One, one, one, the Syrian people are one," emphasizing the need to draft a modern constitution protecting all citizens' rights.

The mass crowds strongly criticized statements by Obeida Arnaout, the official spokesman for the "Military Operations Administration's" political body, regarding the prohibition of women holding certain positions.

Protesters denounced attempts to restrict Syrian women's role, recalling their rich history in holding important leadership positions, demanding official clarification about the government's position on Arnaout's statements.

This popular movement reflects Syrians' aspirations to build a modern civil state that respects diversity and ensures equality among all its citizens, away from any form of religious, ethnic, or gender discrimination.
