Sednaya Prison Continues to Claim Lives: Two Young Men Die Under Torture
A young man, a defector from the Syrian regime forces, was martyred due to torture in the infamous Sednaya Prison, eight months after his arrest in Aleppo upon his return from northern Syria. Activists from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that the young man hailed from the town of Ghabbaghab in the Daraa countryside. After defecting from the regime forces, he had gone to Turkey but was forcibly deported by Turkish authorities. He settled temporarily in northern Syria before returning to Daraa due to the lack of job opportunities, only to be arrested in Aleppo.

He had been detained for three years on charges of kidnapping a citizen in July 2021. The young man was moved between several security branches before being held in Sednaya Prison.
This brings the total number of documented deaths under torture in the Syrian regime's security detention centers to 35 since the beginning of 2024. Among these victims are a political activist, a university student, a writer, an engineer, and a citizen with American nationality.
