New Developments: Resumption of Nuclear Talks Between the United States and Iran
إيران وأمريكا

Dutch Foreign Minister Kaspar Veldkamp and another diplomatic source announced on Monday that the next round of indirect talks between the United States and Iran regarding the Iranian nuclear program will be held in the Italian capital, Rome.

During a meeting of the European Union, Veldkamp confirmed that the talks will take place next Saturday, a statement also affirmed by two diplomats based in Rome. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed "Sky News Arabia" that Rome had agreed to host the new round of negotiations based on requests from both the U.S. and Iran.

The two countries held "constructive" consultations regarding the Iranian nuclear program last Saturday and reported that they had agreed on the date of the upcoming meeting. Iran confirmed in a statement on Sunday that the forthcoming talks would remain "indirect" and focus on nuclear issues and the lifting of sanctions imposed on it.

The Iranian delegation was headed by Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi, a seasoned diplomat and one of the key architects of the nuclear agreement reached in 2015. Meanwhile, the U.S. delegation was led by Steve Wietkoff, who served as an envoy for former President Donald Trump and has experience in real estate. Brief face-to-face meetings took place between the two leaders, despite their short duration.

This round of talks represents the highest level of discussions regarding the Iranian nuclear program since Trump's withdrawal from the international agreement in 2018, which aimed to curb Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions against it. These efforts come as both sides seek to find a resolution that hopes to achieve stability in the region and reopen channels of dialogue.
