Iran destroys headquarters of 'counter-revolutionary' groups in northern Iraq

The Xinhua reported, the acting commander of Hamzeh Seyed al-Shohada base in Iran's West Azarbaijan province on Monday said, Iranian security forces destroyed four headquarters of the "counter-revolutionary" groups by artillery in northern Iraq.

The recent operation came in response to the movements of these groups in the area which borders northern Iraq, Majid Arjomandfar was quoted as saying by the official IRNA news agency.

Arjomandfar said, the groups had been stationed in northern Iraq, near the Iranian border, and the Iranian officials had informed the Iraqi government and the authorities in northern Iraq in this regard.

He noted: "These militants are considered as the enemies of Iran wherever they are, and we consider it our duty to carry out operations against them."

He added: "The intelligence agencies of hostile and foreign countries and even some Arab states have organized the counter-revolutionary groups in northern Iraq to use them against the Islamic Republic."

The Xinhua news agency said, the western and northwestern borders of Iran have been the focus of conflict between the Kurdish separatists and the security forces of Iran over the past years.

According to IRNA, in response to recent actions by "counter-revolutionary" groups, the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) stroke the headquarters of the militants in northern Iraq last week by rockets and missiles.
