Hundreds of Victims in Syrian Coast Massacres.. Calls for International Investigation into Banias Tragedy
-
The crimes committed in the coastal region reflect the continuing Syrian suffering despite decreased media coverage, which requires sending independent investigation committees to document the facts

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Saturday that "the Syrian coastal areas and Latakia mountains witnessed painful events.. claiming the lives of hundreds of citizens, including women and children”.
The Observatory's director, Rami Abdulrahman, stated that "security forces, Defense Ministry personnel, and their auxiliary forces committed war crimes and human rights violations, amid the absence of legal deterrence for these individuals”.
The attacks, which were denounced by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, claimed the lives of 340 Syrians.
The greatest loss of life was recorded on the first day in the city of Banias in rural Tartous, where 60 civilians perished in a violent attack, according to the Observatory's report.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights appealed to the international system for immediate response and dispatching specialized international fact-finding teams to document the serious violations targeting civilians.
Confrontations erupted the day before yesterday, Thursday, in the Syrian coastal region following a series of attacks and ambushes blamed on pro-Assad armed loyalists targeting the transitional government forces.
The clashes continue in the streets within the coastal governorates of Latakia and Tartous.
The Observatory reported that the intense conflict near two hospitals in the capital of Latakia governorate has resulted in casualties on both sides.
