General Joseph Aoun: From Military Leadership to Presidential Office

The election of General Joseph Aoun as President of the Republic marks a pivotal historical moment in Lebanon's journey. Transitioning from a strict military leader to a statesman focused on reform, Aoun faces significant responsibilities that require a clear vision and political courage to lead the country towards a better future.
At the beginning of 2021, the then Commander of the Lebanese Army and now elected President expressed his optimism, stating: "Our country will rise again." Aoun made these remarks before military personnel, expressing his appreciation for their efforts in confronting the severe challenges that Lebanon faced over the past year, noting that they were not immune to hardships and had fulfilled their duties to the fullest.
He further affirmed, "I have always regarded you as heroes and you have made me proud, and I will continue to do so."
The significant challenges confronting the country require President Joseph Aoun to exert greater efforts, and he has demonstrated his ability to prevent discord from infiltrating the Lebanese people through the military institution.
According to observers, despite the difficult circumstances facing Lebanon, hopes today are directed towards this leading figure.
Amid multiple and complex crises engulfing Lebanon, the name General Joseph Aoun stands out as one of the most significant personalities capturing the attention of both the Lebanese people and the international community alike.
From the military institution to the presidential office, Aoun symbolizes hope for rebuilding the state and restoring its sovereignty.
Joseph Aoun was born in the Sanayeh area of East Beirut in 1964 and hails from the town of Al-Aishiyeh in southern Lebanon. He grew up in a modest environment that emphasized national values, enrolled in the Lebanese Military Academy, graduated as an officer in the Lebanese Army, and began a military career marked by continuous promotions due to his competence and discipline.
Aoun held several leadership positions within the Lebanese Army, demonstrating exceptional skill in managing complex military operations, particularly those related to counter-terrorism and maintaining security. He was appointed Commander of the Army in March 2017, where he focused on strengthening the military institution's role as a guardian of national sovereignty and unity.
