Offers to host Putin and Trump meeting indicate international desire to contribute to resolving Ukrainian crisis through direct dialogue
Yuri Ushakov, Kremlin foreign policy advisor, announced Monday receiving offers from several countries to host an anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President-elect Donald Trump.
On Sunday evening, during the "Turning Point USA" conference in Arizona, Trump presented his vision for ending the conflict in Ukraine, stating: "President Putin wants to meet me as soon as possible, so we'll wait for that, and we must end that war."
Trump's statements coincided with his approaching inauguration as U.S. president on January 20, 2025, where he described the Ukrainian conflict as "horrible," asserting that the conflict would not have erupted had he been president instead of Joe Biden.
In his speech, which lasted more than an hour, Trump outlined his second term priorities which he described as the "golden age," pledging: "I will end the war in Ukraine, I will stop the chaos in the Middle East, and I will prevent World War III."
