Amairi, under the influence of alcohol, utters phrases that offend the divine self
Local sources in Syria reported that artist Abdel Moneim Amayri was beaten by armed men in the Mezzeh neighborhood of the capital, Damascus. The newspaper "Sawt al-Asima" mentioned that Amayri was under the influence of alcohol and was uttering phrases that offend the divine self, which sparked angry reactions.
The sources confirmed that this incident is not the first of its kind, as the artist had been warned beforehand not to repeat such behavior. Nevertheless, he suffered a physical assault by armed individuals for the fourth time.
The Syrian newspaper "Al-Watan" published a video showing the incident, which has been widely circulated among media outlets, where Amayri's daughters explained what happened. The video shows Amayri shouting at the checkpoint personnel, claiming that one of them aimed a weapon at him, while those present tried to calm him down.
The filming took place late at night near Amayri's home, and it was unclear whether everyone present was security personnel or if there were civilian neighbors who came out after hearing Amayri's cries. In the video, the cameraman is heard stating that Amayri was "drunk" and was trying to incite trouble, which is why he was documenting the events.
The newspaper stated that it obtained the video from residents of the neighborhood where Amayri lives and confirmed that the matter is under investigation by the Ministry of Interior.
The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media due to the ambiguity of Amayri's daughter Mariam's statements on Instagram, in addition to the artist's absence from commenting on the events.
Mariam wrote, through the stories feature, expressing her outrage at what happened: "A free country? Where is the freedom if someone struck my father in front of my eyes while he lay unconscious on the ground! Where is the honesty and trust in building a new country?" She added, "Where is the law, governance, and morality that allows beating a person until they lose consciousness?"
Bloggers also shared a video of Amayri's eldest daughter, Leila, who expressed her anger over the assault on her father.
