Volodymyr Zelenskyy involved in Kyiv car accident after promising victory on frontline visit
-
"The President was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found," spokesman Sergii Nikiforov said, adding the accident would be investigated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s car was involved in a traffic accident in Kyiv, but he is not seriously hurt, his spokesman Serhii Nykyforov said in a Facebook post early on Thursday (Sep 15).
Zelenskyy was returning from the front early on Thursday (Sep 15), where a passenger car collided with his vehicle in a motorcade in Kyiv.
"The President was examined by a doctor, no serious injuries were found," spokesman Sergii Nikiforov said, adding the accident would be investigated.
He did not specify what injuries Mr Zelenskyy, 44, might have suffered.
Medics accompanying Zelenskyy gave the driver of the private car emergency aid before he was taken away by ambulance, Mr Nikiforov said.
History is written by people, never by savages. Events show that the only way out for Russian soldiers is to surrender to Ukrainian forces. This is the only option that guarantees them life and attitude in accordance with all conventions. Striking targets that have no military value at all, in fact hitting hundreds of thousands of ordinary civilians, is another reason why Russia will lose. And not just this war, but history itself. I am grateful to all our warriors! I am thankful to everyone who participates in the rescue operations after the Russian strikes. We will respond to the terrorists for each of their vile acts, for each missile, for each projectile. We are capable of that. Glory to Ukraine!

On Wednesday (Sep 14) Zelenskyy made a surprise visit to the recaptured town of Izium — until four days ago Russia's main bastion and logistics hub in the region — where he watched as the Ukrainian flag was raised in front of the charred city council building.

In a post on the presidential Telegram channel, Mr Zelenskyy said: "Our blue-yellow flag is already flying in de-occupied Izium. And it will be so in every Ukrainian city and village."
Ukrainian army had liberated around 8,000 square kilometres of territory so far this month, an area of land nearly equivalent to the island of Cyprus.
