UN announces the launch of political process to end crisis in Sudan

The Xinhua reported that he United Nations (UN) on Saturday announced the launch of a UN-facilitated intra-Sudanese political process to end the political crisis in the country.

The UNITAMS said in a statement, Volker Perthes, head of UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), in consultation with Sudanese and international partners, is formally launching the political process, which is aimed at supporting Sudanese stakeholders in agreeing on a way out of the current political crisis.

He e added: "It is time to end the violence and enter into a constructive process. This process will be inclusive."

The UN envoy stressed that all key civilian and military stakeholders, including armed movements, political parties, civil society, women's groups, and resistance committees, will be invited to participate in the UN-facilitated political process.

Sudan has been suffering a political crisis after the general commander of the Sudanese Armed Forces Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan declared a state of emergency on Oct. 25, 2021 and dissolved the Sovereign Council and the government.
