Turkey launches new nationwide operation against bootleg alcohol

The Xinhua reported, the Turkish police on Monday launched a new nationwide operation against illegal and bootleg alcohol as dozens died of alcohol poisoning in Turkey.

The Turkish Interior Ministry said in a statement that the police launched the "Poison 2" operation across 81 provinces against illegal and bootleg alcohol, the second nationwide operation since last week.

The ministry said that more than 100 suspects have been detained both in the "Poison" and Poison 2" operations.

The Xinhua mentioned that bootleg alcohol has become a matter of grave concern in the country as the death toll exceeded 45 people in the past 10 days.

It noted that in October last year, more than 40 people died and over 50 were hospitalized after consuming bootleg alcohol in several provinces in Turkey.
