Trump’s Middle East envoy Greenblatt resigns

Jason Greenblatt, a key architect of President Donald Trump’s much-delayed Israeli-Palestinian peace plan, said Thursday he has resigned.

Greenblatt said in a statement it had been “the honor of a lifetime” to work in the White House.

A senior administration official said Greenblatt was going to spend more time with his family but left on good terms and “holds the confidence of the president.”

Earlier in the day, officials had hinted that Greenblatt planned to resign once the long-delayed US peace plan for Israel and the Palestinians that he has been working on is released.

Greenblatt, who had intended to stay only two years when he began working at the White House in early 2017, is eager to return to his wife and six children who stayed behind at their home in New Jersey, the officials said.
