Terrorist Attack on Security Forces Near Israeli Embassy in Amman
Recent developments regarding the attack on security personnel in the Rabieh area of Jordan's capital, Amman, near the Israeli embassy, have led Jordan's Minister of Information, Muhammad Momani, to classify the incident as a terrorist act.
The minister stated that the assaults were carried out by an individual operating outside the law with a criminal record and emphasized that investigations are ongoing to uncover all details and connections related to the incident.
Earlier, the Jordanian Public Security Directorate announced that it responded early Sunday morning to a report of gunfire directed at a patrol operating in the Rabieh area in Amman.
According to the statement, an individual opened fire on the patrol, prompting a security force to mobilize to the scene. They identified the shooter, who attempted to flee. The security force pursued and cornered him, at which point he fired shots at the security unit, which subsequently engaged according to the established rules of engagement, resulting in the shooter's death.
The Public Security Directorate also reported that three security personnel were injured during the incident and were transferred to the hospital for treatment, where their condition is described as stable. Investigations into the incident have commenced.
Earlier reports from Al Arabiya/Al Hadath correspondents indicated a heavy security presence around the Israeli embassy in Amman. Security forces closed off roads leading to the embassy, and ambulances were dispatched to the area.
Simultaneously, local media reported hearing heavy gunfire in the vicinity of the embassy, as reported by residents in the area. According to the reports, security authorities advised nearby residents to stay indoors and keep their windows shut.
