Shells fired near Syrian base housing US troops and coalition forces

The Media Line reported that media reports said a mortar shell was fired at an area in eastern Syria near a base housing US troops and other coalition forces.

According to The Media Line, Reuters reported, citing a US defense official the shelling on Saturday landed in a gas field in Conoco, Syria, but did not cause any injuries and damage.

It was the fourth attack on or near US troops and diplomats in the last week, including one in which two American service members were injured. No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the US blames Iran-backed militias for such attacks.

Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council on Friday votes to extend the transfer of humanitarian aid to Syrians, suffering due to the ongoing civil war, through the border with Turkey following a compromise between the US and Russia, which had wanted all aid sent through the government of Bashar Assad in the capital, Damascus.
