Saudi Arabia Calls on International Community to Deter Iran’s Nuclear Violations
Saudi Arabia called on Wednesday the international community to take deterrent measures against Iran’s violations of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Prince Abdullah bin Khalid bin Sultan, the Kingdom’s ambassador to Austria and permanent representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, stressed the importance of reaching a “comprehensive international agreement” on Iran’s nuclear program.
Such a pact would limit the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East and ensure international peace and security, he added.
The deal must also include strict and permanent inspection mechanism for each suspected nuclear site, including military locations. A mechanism to reimpose sanctions immediately and effectively must also be put in place should Tehran violate the deal, he demanded.
Iran did not use the economic revenues from the lifting of sanctions after the signing of the 2015 deal to meet the demands of the people, but it instead used them to stir unrest in neighboring countries, said the ambassador.
He said that Iran’s ongoing violation of the deal is clear evidence of its goal to develop nuclear weapons.
