Russian Ambassador Reveals Details on Bashar al-Assad’s Presence in Moscow
بشار الأسد

The Russian ambassador in Baghdad, Alburus Kutrashev, disclosed new details regarding the presence of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Moscow.

In an interview with an Iraqi media outlet, Kutrashev stated that one of the conditions for Assad's residence in Moscow is that he does not engage in any media or political activities.

He added that the idea of handing over Assad is out of the question from Russia's perspective, as he has not violated the conditions of his asylum.

The U.S. State Department estimates that the Assad family's wealth amounts to $2 billion, hidden in numerous accounts, shell companies, offshore tax havens, and real estate holdings.

The Kremlin confirmed that the family was granted asylum based on direct orders from President Putin.

Moscow has not disclosed further details, with presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov telling reporters, "We have nothing to say about Assad's whereabouts."

It is noteworthy that Bashar al-Assad, who was ousted on Sunday, December 8, is no longer in Damascus; he traveled to the Russian Hmeimim Air Base in the coastal city of Latakia and then fled to Moscow.

According to three former close associates and a senior regional official, Bashar al-Assad's family, including his wife Asma and their three children, were already awaiting him in the Russian capital.
