Rubrak: If Harris Wins the Election, U.S. Policies in Syria Will Continue Unchanged

In new statements, former U.S. envoy to Syria William Rubrak confirmed that Kamala Harris's potential victory in the upcoming American elections will not impact the positioning of U.S. forces in Syria. This came during a forum organized by the Kurdish Peace Institute in Washington, where Rubrak addressed concerns and threats related to the ISIS organization.
According to the local North Press website, Rubrak clarified that Harris's administration will focus primarily on combating the threat posed by ISIS in Syria. He added that any decisions made regarding the presence of U.S. forces in the region will be directly linked to the extent of the threat from the organization, indicating that U.S. policy regarding military presence in Syria will not change significantly.
Rubrak noted that the current situation is expected to persist, underscoring the need for a balanced approach to face the ongoing challenges from ISIS, which still poses a threat to peace and stability in the region. He also highlighted the importance of U.S. cooperation with local and international allies to ensure the effectiveness of campaigns against the organization and to protect American interests.
At the same time, this situation reflects the complexities faced by U.S. policy in the Middle East, as the United States continues to confront security and political challenges in Syria. On the other hand, should Harris win, her administration will focus on enhancing coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces and protecting areas that have been liberated from the control of the organization.
The situation in Syria remains unstable, with local forces and armed groups facing multiple challenges, including the sudden resurgence of the organization in some areas. As tensions between global and local powers continue, the sustained presence of U.S. forces may require a reevaluation of their strategies in the region in line with changing circumstances.
At the conclusion of the forum, Rubrak expressed the importance of reviewing U.S. policies toward Syria and realistically assessing threats, which will contribute to achieving long-term goals to help stabilize the region.
