Moscow Calls on Germany Not to Interfere Regarding Russian Bases in Syria
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock should focus on discussing the future of U.S. bases in her country instead of speculating about Russian bases in Syria.
Commenting on the German diplomat's statement calling on Russia to abandon its military presence in Syria, Zakharova noted that "this is being said by the foreign minister of a country that hosts U.S. military bases." She posed a question to her: "Doesn't the German foreign minister think it would be better for her to say something like this to Washington?" Zakharova wrote this on her Telegram channel.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service stated that the United States and the United Kingdom are planning to launch terrorist attacks on Russian military bases in Syria with the aim of pushing Moscow to withdraw its forces from the country.
The Russian Hmeimim Air Base in the Latakia countryside is considered the most important of the bases that Moscow has established in Syria over the past years, given the contribution that this base has made to facilitating Russian military activity in Syria and Africa.
