Lebanese female dance troupe Mayyas won the America's Got Talent season 17 on Wednesday night (Sep 14)

The group take home the $1 million prize and a headlining show at Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

During the live shows, the group delivered another hypnotizing dance routine that fellow judge and executive producer Simon Cowell predicted would “change the world,” according to the al-Arabiya English.

Dancer Kristy Sellars came in second, Drake Milligan won third, Metaphysic came fourth and Chapel Hart ranked fifth.

For their final performance, the group joined forces with pole dancer Sellars and presented an 80 second dance that got the crowds cheering.

The dancers received a standing ovation from all four judges — Vergara, Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel.

 “Fabulous,” shouted judge Sofia Vergara, who gave Mayyas her golden buzzer after their first audition. “Another level.”

Simon Cowell said the performance was “astonishing”.

“Something has happened with you where I'm beginning to feel a buzz beyond the show. This has landed. It is global. It is huge. I don't think you can top that.”

Mandel said: “This is my favorite act ever on AGT.”

“That’s so great for you. It’s great for women, female empowerment, your culture,” he added. 

In an interview with Arab News, the group’s choreographer Nadim Cherfan said: “The Lebanese people around the world have shown us huge support.” 

“We’ve been getting tons of messages. Everybody is backing up Mayyas. Everybody is rooting for Mayyas. So I’m really thankful for the Lebanese diaspora that is being really supportive for Mayyas,” he added.

This is not the first time the dance group has appeared on a talent show.

Mayyas was founded in Beirut by Nadim Cherfan, who is also the act's choreographer. He started dancing aged 14 and attended workshops in the UK, the US and India. He launched his own dance classes in studios around the Lebanese capital in 2012, before forming Mayyas.

In 2019, the group appeared on the sixth series Arabs Got Talent and went on to win the series, receiving a new car and a 200,000 Saudi riyal ($53,333) cash prize. In the same year, they participated in Britain's Got Talent: The Champions, an international spin-off of the talent show on UK TV.

During their America's Got Talent audition, the group explained their name, saying it “is a word in Arabic that means the proud walk of a lioness”.
