King Charles to ‘turn Queen’s Balmoral home into museum’

King Charles has plans to ‘turn the Queen’s Balmoral home into a museum’, it has been claimed, the Metro reported.

The estate has belonged to the British Royal Family since 1852 when the estate and its original castle were bought from the Farquharson family by Prince Albert.

It said, the private Scottish castle where the Queen died, could be transformed into a public exhibition that contains relics from her seven-decade reign.

According to the Daily Mail, it is likely to focus on the Queen’s lifetime of service, and could contain displays of Royal jewellery and outfits worn by her Majesty.

An exhibition would also honour the former monarch’s connection to Scotland, while ensuring staff keep their jobs on the estate.

An insider has said, it could open as soon as next summer.

According to one source, it would fulfil the King’s ambition of creating spaces within existing Royal buildings where people can come to view them.

Whilst he was Prince of Wales he devoted time to restoring the Castle of Mey, the home of his late grandmother, The Queen Mother.

They told the Daily Mail: ‘Now he plans to do something similar with Balmoral. But all these things are likely to take some time.’

Balmoral in Aberdeenshire was seen as the place where the Queen was able to swap pomp and ceremony for wellies and a comfy cardigan.

Although the Castle is officially open to tourists until August, the monarch’s traditional summer break usually started in mid-July, where she would start her trip in a beautiful, rustic seven-bedroom stone house, Craigowan Lodge, before moving to the big house in August.

From then, the Queen would usually stay in Scotland until September, sometimes October, with fellow royals paying visits, as well as inviting Prime Ministers and their partners for short stays.
