Jordan, UAE and Egypt reach an agreement on grains production

Jordan said on Thursday (June 2) that it has inked an agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt on planting wheat, barley and corn in Jordan to boost cooperation on food security.

Planting the crops in Jordan is part of a joint venture between Jordan and Egypt and will be implemented via an Emirati investment, Jordan's state-run Al Mamlaka TV quoted Jordan's Industry, Trade and Supply Minister Yousef Shamali as saying.

Shamali said that the three countries also reached another agreement, under which the UAE will provide gas to Jordan and Egypt will provide ammonia for producing fertilizers.

The minister said that all products will be first used to meet the needs of the three countries, with the remainder being exported. He added that the projects are expected to start in three months.

On Sunday, Jordan, the UAE and Egypt launched the Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development to implement industrial projects worth 10 billion U.S. dollars, which cover the sectors of pharmaceuticals, agriculture, food manufacturing, petrochemicals, metals and minerals.
