Jerusalem Post: Aleppo Approaches Transition to Syrian Opposition
قلعة حلب

The Hebrew newspaper "Jerusalem Post" reported that the Syrian government in Damascus may face a complete loss of the city of Aleppo in favor of opposition factions, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, due to a decline in its strength and weakened Iranian support following Israeli strikes on its positions and spheres of influence.

The newspaper noted that Syrian opposition factions are now capable of dealing the "biggest blow" to the Damascus regime led by Bashar al-Assad in years, whereas it was previously believed that support from Russia and Iran would ensure the regime's protection.

The article pointed out that Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is currently considered the only independent faction with effective forces on the ground, as reflected clearly in the ongoing battles in Aleppo.

The newspaper warned that the Syrian government's forces are currently experiencing a significant deficit due to the absence of Russian and Iranian support, which is partly attributed to Moscow's focus on developments in Ukraine, along with the pressures being exerted by Israel on the Lebanese Hezbollah, hindering the party's ability to send reinforcements through the Quseir area in the Homs countryside.

While the Syrian government believed that things were going in its favor just a week ago, the developments in the battle for Aleppo have drastically reshaped the political and military landscape in Syria.
