The Israeli army announced on the morning of Saturday, September 28, 2024, the killing of Hezbollah's Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, in addition to the leader of the southern front in the party, Ali Kourki, and several other leaders.

The occupying army had launched a series of airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Friday evening, targeting the central headquarters of Hezbollah.

These airstrikes were classified as the fiercest of their kind since the 2006 war, with Israeli television channels reporting that the aim of these operations was the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, the Hezbollah leader supported by Iran.

For its part, a source close to Hezbollah rushed to reassure Agence France-Presse that Nasrallah is "well."

In an initial toll, the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the airstrikes targeting the area filled with residential buildings surrounding Hezbollah's "security square" resulted in the death of two people and injured 76 others, with expectations of an increase in the number of casualties due to the ongoing debris removal operations.

A source close to the party also indicated that the Israeli airstrikes completely destroyed six buildings in the western suburb of Beirut, which has a high population density, considering these attacks to be the most intense on Hezbollah's stronghold since the war that broke out with Israel in the summer of 2006.

Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari stated in a televised statement that the army "carried out a precise strike on the central headquarters of the Hezbollah organization in the suburbs."
