Iranian Minister of Industry Reza Rahmani has reportedly been infected with coronavirus, according to the Iranian media.

Rahmani is hospitalised in the intensive care unit of a hospital in Tehran, the state-run news website Asr-e Iran reported, citing an informed source.

The semi-official ILNA news agency however later reported citing a source at the Ministry of Industry that Rahmani was not hospitalised due to coronavirus but due to “chemical injuries” sustained during the eight-year-long war with Iraq (1980-1988).

The source denied that Rahmani has been infected with coronavirus.

State media had also previously reported that lawmaker Mohammad Ali Ramazani, elected in Iran’s February 21 polls, died of the flu and “chemical injuries” dating back to the war with Iraq, and not due to coronavirus as reported by some media outlets.

Some media reports had claimed that Ramazani tested positive for coronavirus a few days prior to his death and died from the virus.

As of Tuesday, 77 in Iran have died from coronavirus and there are 2,336 confirmed cases.
