Intense Airstrikes Hit Southern Beirut as Israel Targets Hezbollah in Mosque
الحدود اللبنانية الإسرائيلية

New and intense airstrikes shook the southern suburbs of Beirut on Saturday morning, with thick smoke covering the sky of the area. The Israeli army announced that it targeted fighters from the Hezbollah group in a mosque in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army stated that its forces carried out an airstrike overnight on Hezbollah fighters inside a mosque in southern Lebanon, marking the first attack of its kind since the exchange of fire began between Israel and the party a year ago. The army said in a statement that overnight, under the direction of Israeli military intelligence, the air force struck elements of Hezbollah "who were active inside a command center located within a mosque adjacent to Salih Ghandoor Hospital in southern Lebanon."

This comes as Hezbollah announced that it targeted the Israeli military base of Ramat David, located southeast of the city of Haifa, with a barrage of rockets, while also targeting a Merkava tank during its advance at the outskirts of a border town in southern Lebanon, coinciding with continued Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon.

The party stated in a statement that its fighters launched "a volley of Fadi 1 rockets" at the Ramat David base, which is about 45 kilometers from the Lebanese border. In another statement, it reported that its fighters targeted a "Merkava tank during its advance" in the outskirts of a border town "with a guided missile, hitting it directly."

The Israeli army had reported detecting the launch of rockets from Lebanon, most of which were intercepted while the rest fell in open areas, adding that the air force is intensifying its airstrikes on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
