Historic Achievement: Bahrain Launches Its First Satellite

The CEO of Benefit: The launch of Bahrain’s first satellite marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom's journey towards leadership in space research and sciences.
Mr. Abdul Wahid Al-Junaahi, CEO of Benefit and Chairman of the Bahrain FinTech Bay, confirmed that the launch of Bahrain’s first satellite represents a historic national achievement, capping the diligent efforts of a team of Bahraini researchers and experts in collaboration with prestigious international research and scientific institutions. He noted that this achievement marks a turning point in Bahrain's journey towards leadership in space research and sciences, solidifying the Kingdom's position among advanced countries that support innovation and excellence in exploring and developing the latest advanced technological solutions. He expressed pride in this accomplishment in the space sector for the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, may God protect him, and the continuous oversight of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and Prime Minister, may God protect him, along with the support of His Highness Major General Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, National Security Advisor, Commander of the Royal Guard, and Secretary-General of the Supreme Defense Council.
Mr. Al-Junaahi highlighted the launch of the "Al-Mundhir" satellite, which supports the achievement of the goals of Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030 aimed at localizing strategic technologies within the Kingdom and increasing the local content while enhancing its quality and competitiveness. He noted that empowering Bahraini youth to acquire and apply advanced expertise in satellite design and operation, as well as encouraging and supporting them to work on technologies in the field of satellite development and manufacturing, in line with the best practices and international standards, supports meeting the local demand for technical skills needed in broadcasting and telecommunications, while continuing to invest in innovative technologies related to satellite development.

Aimed at secondary school students, the event brought together a distinguished group of academic professionals and technology experts to mentor and inspire young participants.
More than 100 high school students from across the Kingdom of Bahrain took part in the hackathon, which featured an intensive programme of training workshops and hands-on sessions. These activities were tailored to enhance participants’ critical thinking, collaborative problem-solving, and team-building capabilities, while also encouraging the development of practical and sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges using modern technological tools.
