The assassination of Haniyeh in the heart of Tehran reveals advanced intelligence capabilities that managed to penetrate the highest levels of Iranian security
The Israeli intelligence system presented detailed information about the successful elimination of Hamas political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, using a bomb planted in his room in Tehran at the end of last July, while the movement rushed to refute these details.
Hamas issued a statement Sunday evening describing the information circulated by Hebrew media outlets, based on intelligence reports, as "mere fabrications."
The movement explained that joint investigations between its security apparatus and their Iranian counterparts revealed that the assassination was carried out through a smart missile containing 7.5 kilograms of explosives, directly targeting Haniyeh's mobile phone at his residence in the government guesthouse in Tehran.
The movement emphasized its condemnation of this targeting, which represents a violation of Iranian territorial sovereignty as it struck an official facility. Israeli Channel 12 broadcast details of the operation yesterday, noting that military censorship authorized the publication of details.
The channel claimed that the assassination was carried out using an ultra-precise device that is remotely controlled, installed in Haniyeh's room to eliminate him.
It's worth noting that the assassination of the former Hamas political bureau chief took place in late July, during his official visit to Tehran following his participation in the inauguration ceremony of the new president Masoud Pezeshkian.
This came following the assassination of leader Fouad Shukr, one of the close advisers to former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, one day earlier in Beirut's southern suburbs.
