Guardiola Faces Injury Crisis as Manchester City Prepares for Upcoming Matches

Josep Guardiola, the head coach of Manchester City, stated that his team is facing a crisis due to an increasing number of injured players following their 1-2 loss to Tottenham in the EFL Cup, leaving only 13 players available.
Manchester City missed the contributions of Kyle Walker, Rodri, Oscar Bob, Jeremy Doku, Kevin De Bruyne, and Jack Grealish in the fourth-round match against Tottenham. Additionally, Manuel Akanji was ruled out before the start of the game, and Savinho had to be carried off on a stretcher in the second half.
Guardiola acknowledged that the situation is becoming more challenging ahead of their match against Bournemouth on Saturday, followed by a clash with Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League.
“We have 13 players available, so we are in a very difficult situation,” Guardiola said. “The players who participated in the match had some issues, and we will see how their recovery goes.”
He added, “It’s a tough situation. Akanji felt pain in his muscle yesterday, and I wasn’t aware of it. During the warm-up, he felt unwell and said he could take the risk, but I refused.”
Guardiola continued, “Roberts also occasionally struggles. The challenges increase with each match—maybe one day we will all come back together. The players who are here are fighting to stay and pushing themselves, focusing for us. I will never forget these players.”
