Germany Warns Syrian Refugees of Deportation Based on One Condition

German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck confirmed that employment is the key criterion for Syrian refugees' chances of remaining in Germany. In statements to the "Deutschlandfunk" station on Monday, Habeck, a candidate from the Green Party for the upcoming chancellorship election, pointed out the importance of benefiting from refugees who work in the country.
Regarding the issue of returning non-working individuals to their home country, he stated, "Those who do not work here will have the possibility to return safely or may be forced to do so."
German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, a member of the Social Democratic Party, supported this view, emphasizing that good training and effective integration are crucial for Syrians to remain in the country.
For his part, Thorsten Frei, executive director of the parliamentary group of the Christian Democratic Union, explained that those wishing to obtain permanent residency in Germany must earn enough to ensure a better pension than the minimum social security when they reach old age.
According to the German Ministry of the Interior, there are about 975,000 Syrians residing in Germany, the majority of whom arrived since 2015 due to the civil war. Among them, more than 300,000 Syrians hold subsidiary protection status, meaning they are not at risk of personal persecution but are coming due to the conflict in their country.
It is noteworthy that the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees in Germany recently decided not to consider asylum applications submitted by Syrians at this time, given the rapid developments in Syria following the ousting of President Bashar al-Assad's regime.
