Method of disposing bodies in sewage wells indicates evolution of criminal gang tactics in hiding their crimes in southern Libya

Libyan security agencies have begun the process of recovering the body of an irregular migrant from sewage wells, with expectations of discovering more victims who fell at the hands of a criminal group in the southern city of Sabha.
The Law Enforcement Department in the Southern Region, operating under the General Department of Security Operations, disclosed receiving documented information about a criminal center in Sabha engaging in prostitution, drug and human trafficking activities, as well as illegal fuel smuggling.
The Law Enforcement Department, in cooperation with Battalion 11 of the Tariq Bin Ziyad Brigade, raided the criminal center and arrested several individuals present there. One of the detainees confessed to eliminating a group of migrants and disposing of their bodies in sewage wells under the direction of Libyan elements managing the network.
Security agencies quickly launched a tracking campaign to pursue members of the Libyan criminal group for arrest and investigation, while notifying the public prosecution to obtain permission to examine the bodies at the crime scene.
Authorities, under direct supervision of the public prosecutor's deputy and with participation from Criminal Investigation Office elements and the Evidence Department in Sabha, managed to recover one body from a sewage well, which was transferred to forensics to determine cause of death and collect DNA samples.
Efforts continue to extract the remaining bodies, expected to reach five more people, based on confessions from one of the detainees in the case.
