French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized during his visit to Damascus today Friday the necessity that "Syria should be a sovereign, secure state without battles", adding: "Weapons must be silenced in all Syrian territories".

Regarding the Kurdish issue in northern Syria, he added: "There must be a political solution for the Kurds, to integrate them into the Syrian state, and to reach a permanent ceasefire", confirming continued French support for the Kurdish people's rights in Syria.

The French Minister further stated that "Syria must be sovereign and free, and secure, which means there is no place in this country for Islamic terrorism".

Continuing: "You have suffered from this terrorism and we have suffered from this terrorism, and we have always stood and continue to stand beside the Kurds in northeastern Syria", which confirms ongoing French coordination with Syrian Democratic Forces in confronting terrorist threats that might exploit Syria's conditions to build capabilities and train militants.

The French minister clarified that "on the thirteenth of December, we struck a site belonging to ISIS", emphasizing: "We do not want this terrorism to threaten Syria, nor threaten France's security, nor the security of the world and Europe", indicating Paris's commitment to fighting terrorist organizations.

It should be noted that French-Kurdish relations extend over many years, with France providing significant military and logistical support to Syrian Democratic Forces in their war against ISIS, which contributed to liberating vast areas in northeastern Syria from the terrorist organization's control.

French statements confirm the importance of adopting a comprehensive solution for all components in Syria, ensuring everyone's rights and limiting Turkey's attempts to intervene in Syrian affairs and transform the region into a stronghold for extremist groups.
