First Theatrical Performance in Aleppo After the Fall of Bashar Assad's Regime
The city of Aleppo in northwestern Syria witnessed its first theatrical performance since the fall of Bashar Assad's regime, where a cultural art event was held aimed at restoring national spirit and enhancing belonging to the future of Syria.
The event, which took place on Friday evening, included a musical theatrical performance featuring a collection of revolutionary anthems and folk dances, with the participation of several well-known Syrian artists such as Samir Aqtah, Muhammad Jafar, and Qamar Al-Zaman Bro, along with TikToker Yaman Najjar. The theatrical work "We Will Build It" was also presented at the Artists' Syndicate Theater in Aleppo, marking the first artistic activity of its kind in the city since its liberation.
The play addressed the situation in Syria during the weeks following the overthrow of Bashar Assad's regime, focusing on the challenges and new aspirations of the Syrian people. Participants in the performance emphasized the importance of such events in confirming the return of life to the city and the Syrian people, as well as their role in promoting values of loyalty and belonging to the Syria of the people, rather than "Syria of Assad," and in strengthening cohesion among young people to rebuild their state.
In a statement to Anadolu Agency, actress Qamar Al-Zaman Bro said: "(We Will Build It) is the first theatrical performance in Aleppo since the regime's fall... Our aim was to share the happiness we live with other people."
Raja Qantar, who returned to Syria after nearly 10 years away, expressed pride in participating in this performance, praising the efforts made to convey the message that Syria needs all its children. He added: "Preparing for the performance was a true adventure, as we worked to complete it in just five days."
On December 8 of last year, the country witnessed a historic event with the victory of the Syrian revolution and the fall of Bashar Assad's regime after his flight to the Russian capital, Moscow, thus ending 61 years of Baath Party rule and 53 years of the Assad family's rule. The following day, the leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, announced the appointment of Muhammad Al-Bashir, the head of the government that had been managing the city of Idlib for years, to form a new government to oversee a transitional phase.
