Eid al-Adha holiday announced for UAE federal workers

Officials in the United Arab Emirates announced on Thursday (June 30) that Federal government workers will have a long weekend for the Eid-al-Adha holiday.
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources said the holiday will run from Friday July 8 until Monday July 11, with work to resume Tuesday July 12, the Emirates news agency (WAM) reported.
Earlier this week it was announced that the first day of Eid al-Adha will begin on July 9 following the sighting of the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia at the Tamir observatory, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported, citing the Kingdom’s Supreme Court.
According to authorities in the Kingdom, the crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Zul Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, June 29.

June 29 will, therefore, be the last day of Zul Qaadah, while the first day of Zul Hijjah will be on June 30. This means that the first day of Eid Al Adha this year will be celebrated on July 9, corresponding to the 10th of Zul Hijjah, which is the last month of the Islamic calendar.

In the UAE, residents are set to enjoy a four-day break on the occasion of Eid Al Adha. The likely dates of the long weekend to celebrate the festival are: Friday, July 8, to Monday, July 11.
