Accountability and Transition: Recent Developments in Syria

On Tuesday, military operations leader Ahmad al-Shar' confirmed the leadership's commitment to holding accountable all those involved in the torture of the Syrian people and the crimes against civilians. Regarding Sednaya prison, the Syrian Civil Defense announced the completion of search operations, confirming that no secret cells or potential detainees were found in the locations that were inspected.
On another front, the military operations management tasked the head of the "Rescue Government" to form a government that will oversee the transitional phase in Syria, amid the ongoing massacre committed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against protesters demanding its withdrawal from Deir ez-Zor, aiming to incorporate it into the rest of the provinces under the management of the "military operations" following the downfall of the Assad regime.
Earlier on Monday, a meeting was held in Damascus that included military operations leader Ahmad al-Shar' and the head of the Rescue Government, Muhammad al-Bashir, along with former Syrian Prime Minister Muhammad Ghazi al-Jalali. Specialized sources informed Syrian TV that the meeting concluded with an agreement to task al-Bashir with forming a new Syrian government to manage the transitional phase.
This comes as military operations announced that its forces are nearing the completion of securing the capital and preserving all public facilities and properties, indicating that the new government will commence its work as soon as it is formed.
In the city of Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria, the SDF committed a massacre against protesters opposing its presence, killing at least 10 civilians and injuring 22 others after opening fire on demonstrations demanding its withdrawal from the city amid the presence of crowds affiliated with the "Syrian National Army" and military operations management nearby.
Local sources reported to Syrian TV that the residents of Deir ez-Zor took to the streets on Monday, demanding the withdrawal of the SDF and the entry of Syrian opposition factions. However, the SDF responded to the demonstrators with live ammunition, resulting in the deaths of 10 individuals and injuries to 22 others in the initial tally.
Additionally, in the town of Maskanah in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, sources indicated that the SDF fired live ammunition at demonstrators calling for its withdrawal from their town and the entry of Syrian National Army factions.
