Afrin.. "National Army" Forces Civilians to Dismantle Mines Leading to Their Death
-
The death of young Omar Barakat represents a stark example of human rights violations and war crimes being committed in occupied Syrian territories
Young Hammoud Omar Barakat was killed and another young man was seriously injured in "Sughanka" village in rural Afrin, due to a landmine explosion while being forced to dismantle it at gunpoint by members of the Turkish-backed "National Army."
Local sources reported that the victims were directly coerced by armed elements, where they were forced to risk their lives in an attempt to dismantle a landmine in an area known for its danger.
Field reports indicate that these practices come as part of a systematic policy followed by Turkish-backed militias, aimed at intimidating local residents and forcing them to leave their areas.
This incident documents a recurring pattern of violations in areas under Turkish militia control, where civilians are subjected to various forms of intimidation and coercion, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and human rights.
