Turkish security authorities have launched an extensive investigation into a terrorist attack targeting the TUSAŞ Aerospace Industries complex in the capital Ankara, where an armed group executed a complex operation resulting in five deaths, including two of the attackers.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced via "X" platform: "A terrorist attack targeted the Turkish Aerospace Industries facilities in Ankara. Unfortunately, we have martyrs and wounded in this attack."
Turkey's NTV channel reported that the attackers exploited a guard shift change period to reach the complex entrance using a taxi, where one of them detonated an explosive device before storming the facility.
Concerns escalated about a possible third gunman holding hostages inside the company headquarters, while medical services recorded 14 injuries, three of which are in critical condition.
The complex vicinity witnessed heavy deployment of special forces, ambulances, and fire brigades, with helicopters hovering over the incident site to help control the situation.
TUSAŞ is considered a fundamental pillar in Turkey's defense industry sector, which accounts for about 80% of the country's exports in 2023, valued at over $10.2 billion.
